Late run by Hawk girls comes up short

River Valley's girls basketball team made a strong run at host Reedsburg Thursday before losing 51-46.
A 16-10 fourth quarter run gave the Blackhawks a strong finish but it wasn't enough. The Hawks had to fight back from a hot first quarter by the Beavers that saw them climb to an 18-9 lead.
The late River Valley run was keyed by four three-point plays, three via the outside shot route and one with a basket and a free throw by sophomore point guard Taylor Briehl who finished the game with 10 points.
Kylie Hoffman, who led the Hawks with 12 points, nailed one of the three pointers with the other two coming courtesy of Alyssa Mueller.
"We got within three then a couple shots would not drop," said coach Darby Blakely. "We put up a good hard fight against a good team."
"You are never satisfied with a loss but the girls played hard all night against a very strong non-conference opponent."
Tiernie Schrank, a 6-0 guard, led all scorers with 19 points for Reedsburg. Sarah Rotajczyk added 10 points, also for the Beavers.
