Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

I had a red letter day a week ago Monday as I didn't receive ANY campaign
literature in my mailbox! I couldn't believe it as the election was just
a day over a week away. Boy am I ever glad that it's over. The big question
I want answered is why do we have to vote AGAINST people instead of for
people? That's the way most of the literature about the candidates came
across. Also, what ever happened to compromise? Even the Whigs and the
Tories - way back before they changed to Democrat and Republican - didn't
agree on politics, but COMPROMISE was the answer most of the time!

I guess I'm going to have to get one of those "Smart Phones". Saturday, I
hurried to get to Wisconsin Rapids for the first race of the state cross country
championships by 11:30 a.m. only to find out when I arrived it was postponed
until 12:30 due to frost on the course. It had been postponed other
years, but the WIAA moved the start time an hour from 10:30 to accommodate
the frost! Only this time the frost won out again. Anyway, if I had internet
on my "dumb phone" I could've taken my time getting there. But actually
I don't mind being "dumb" - that's the way I have been all my life so
why change now!

The Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls cross country team finished 6th out of
16 teams in Division 2 at the state championships Saturday. They probably
didn't finish as high as they wanted, but they should always remember,
there are a lot of schools out there that would love to have been competing
at Wisconsin Rapids. The girls ran hard and were ready. Maybe some of the
other teams just "had their day"! Above is a picture of the team meeting
with their coaches in the middle of the starting area before the race.

Hey, it's November already. That means that Veterans Day is next week
and Thanksgiving is the next holiday - late this year as it's the 28th. After
Thanksgiving, it's less than a month until Christmas!

This Saturday there's a vendor and craft sale at Hidden Valley Church on
the east side of Dodgeville. Proceeds go to help purchase something along
the lines of a house for the homeless.

Also on Saturday, Jeffrey's House of Foolishness in downtown
Dodgeville will be hosting a chili cookoff. Knowing Jeffrey, it should be a
lot of fun with some pretty darn good chili!

things going on in the area this weekend.

We were beneficiaries of some chocolate chip cookies from "that bakery
downtown" last week. I think there's still one cookie around here somewhere.
The good thing about it is IF I find it I know it will taste just as good
as the day it was delivered!
