Eagles lose to Potosi in five sets

When first year Barneveld coach Lacy Reeson was coaching the junior varsity she did not have to say a final good-bye to her players.
All she had to do was wish them luck for the next level.
But this year Reeson was pressed into action at the varsity level because of a late resignation and when the successful season for the Eagles ended at Potosi in a hard fought close match that took all five sets she was faced with saying her first good-byes.
"I want to thank my seniors for a wonderful year," Reeson said. "Thank you to Carly Kolze for your upbeat attitude and always cheering on the team. Thank you Corissa Lease for dancing and for your continuous encouragement. Thank you Liz Skaife for watching out for the team and your words of advice. Thank you Kassy Bauman for being a team player and stepping up to any position. Lastly, thank you to Rachel Slaney for being a leader in every aspect on the floor and with your motivating words. We will truly miss you all next year. "
Those words came after a brilliant display of volleyball that saw the two teams battle to a fifth game Thursday that Potosi pulled out 17-15.
The Eagles started with a 25-11 win then the Chieftains paid them back 25-16. Next it was Barneveld's turn 25-18 before Potosi squeezed out a 25-23 win to set up the fifth set.
The Eagles were strong at the net and were led by Slaney who had 32 kills and six blocks. She also had 14 digs.
Taylor Owens added 11 kills and Jenna Wright had 15 digs along with four aces.
Kelsee Fargo led in assists with 30 and Sarah Cannoy added 15.
"It was a very exciting night in Potosi," Reeson said. "The girls came in hungry for a win and full of energy. The student section and crowd was electric and created one of the most exciting sporting environments I have ever been a part of."
"The girls came out strong and played with heart and passion and surprised Potosi with their energy and play in the first game," Reeson said. "In the second game, the Potosi middle hitter Taylor Kennedy really came alive and showed why she is one of the leading hitters in Division 4. After the second game, the girls made adjustments and really capitalized on scoring points when Kennedy was in the back row. The girls never gave up and continued fighting the entire night, but couldn't pull out the win."
"The girls on the bench were huge contributors to the game." Reeson said. "Their constant cheering and energy helped the girls fight hard the entire night and is truly appreciated. The girls played with heart and gave everything they had to win the game. They should hold their heads high and be proud of how they played. I know that we, as coaches, and the entire community are proud of how hard they fought and played against Potosi."
