Along The Ad Routes

Sunday was one of those days for me. Actually it started Friday night. I was at Highland for both baseball and softball when brother Pat called me. The Dodgeville high School baseball team was having a cookout. His key wouldn't work in the concession stand lock so he left the grill outside. I stopped after returning from Highland and my key went right in, the door opened and I put the grill away. Then, Saturday morning I took a few things to the stand to get ready for the Sunday home talent game with Hollandale. Everything was fine. But when I took a few more things to the park late Saturday afternoon, my key would not work then. I tried it again a half hour later and then once more. So Sunday morning good friend and one "who can do it all", Terry Carroll, came to my rescue. He took the old door handle off and replaced it with a new one. After a short while - with hamburgers about 3/4 done and brats about 1/2 done, the grill quit. I thought it was out of gas, but after changing tanks twice, I realized it was the grill. So, I finished cooking in the Nesco roaster and then what hamburgers and brats I had started were going to be it for the day! It worked out and by the time the game was finished, I had just one hamburger and four brats left. They didn't last long after the players invaded me! Although at about noon, I was ready to walk away from the concession stand never to return again - but I didn't. I gutted it out!

Saturday was Highland's graduation - the school first from our coverage area to do so. There is a lot of "specialness" about that school, being the only full Charter School in the state of Wisconsin. Principal Josh Tarrell, who himself is a Highland graduate, gave quite a speech about the valedictorian Shanaya Hebgen and salutatorian Blake Bomkamp. And he also talked in depth about Hannah Laufenberg, a student who was in a bad automobile wreck and they didn't even know if she would be able to graduate with her class. She was determined to do so and did, saying that she was going to do it while in the hospital. Proof is in the photo above where she stands with her classmates and audience also standing applauding her accomplishment. The two who are turned round applauding are the valedictorian and salutatorian, Shanaya and Blake.

I'm hearing more and more about Hi-Point reopening just outside of Ridgeway. I wish them well on their venture. The area can always use a good steakhouse! Oh and The Ridge in Ridgeway is closed due to remodeling, not closed for good!

Graduations will be in full swing this coming weekend and Memorial Day commemorations and celebrations will be taking place also. That means there will be a lot of traffic on the roads and coming through the towns. It's time to be on the lookout for the other guy!

The Milwaukee Brewers took it on the chin two out of three games at the Cubs ballpark this past weekend. As of Sunday they are 10 games above .500. I would think they would be pretty happy to be 10 games above .500 when the season ends, but I hope they prove me wrong in that prediction and are a lot more than 10 games above that mark come October!
