Eagles score in bunches to beat Timberwolves


Barneveld's baseball team put new meaning to the term "hit and run" Friday and swept a Six Rivers doubleheader with River Ridge in convincing fashion.
The Eagles did the running with 13 stolen bases in the 12-1 first game win. They also did the hitting with 11 hits including doubles by Carson Carmody, Tyler Hellenbrand, Brycen Sorensen and Wes Williams.
Hellenbrand, who also pitched the win, knocked in three runs. Samuel Shatrawka and Wes Williams drove in two each while Carmody, Sorenson and Will Clausen plated one each.
When it came to base thievery, Breuer and Nate Franque both swiped three, Colton Sullivan stole two while Trey Laube, Todd Nechkash, Shatrawka, Wes Williams and Sorenson all grabbed one.
Hellenbrand was 3x3 to pace the Eagles and Sorenson was 2x4. Breuer, Sullivan, Williams, Connor Ihm and Shatrawka all had one hit.
Hellenbrand pitched the win going five of the six innings. He fanned seven and walked two while spacing four hits. He also gave up the lone run to the Timberwolves.
Shatrawka fanned one in pitching a shut-out sixth.
The Eagles were also helped by 11 River Ridge walks.
The Eagles got an early boost when Hellenbrand doubled in Sullivan who reached on an error and Nechkash, who came in to courtesy run for Carmody after he walked. After that, the Eagles never looked back.
The Wolves scored their lone run in the fourth when Derek Posten singled, Sean Kibler was hit by a pitch and Ben Ertz singled for an rbi.
Hellenbrand had two innings left and he used them in the second game to help the Eagles to a 15-2 win in five innings.
Barneveld put up a huge margin early with eight runs the first inning.
Breuer and Sullivan both singled and moved up on a passed ball and a stolen base. Breuer scored on a wild pitch and Sullivan came in when Hellenbrand doubled.
Sorenson advanced Franque who was running for Hellenbrand to third with another double.
Williams singled to plate Franque and Sorenson then scored on Shatrawka's rbi double.
Connor Ihm and Sullivan both singled in runs to make it 8-0.
Hellenbrand left the mound after fanning one and walking one while giving up both River Ridge runs. Shatrawka finished, throwing the last three with four hits, two walks and two strikeouts to his credit.
Breuer and Sullivan both went 3x3 for the Eagles. Hellenbrand, Sorenson and Shatrawka were 2x2 and Ihm finished 2x3.
Hellenbrand had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. Sorensen doubled and drove in a run. Shatrawka had two doubles and two rbis and Breuer added another double.
Sullivan and Williams both drove in three runs while Ihm and Carmody drove in one each.
Sorenson had a pair of steals while Hellenbrand, Williams and Sullivan all swiped one.
Shatrawka was credited with the pitching decision.
"I thought we hit the ball very well today," saaid Eagle coach Lance Schmitz. "Wthout Dusin (Hodgson) in the line-up for a few games we had to do some adjusting and it took a game or two to figure things out."
"Sam, in his first varsity start did a real nice job shuting them down," he added.
"In the last three to four games we've played good fundamental baseball, manufacturing runs," Schmitz concluded.
