Dodgers come up short with Hornets

A strong pitching performance from both teams resulted in an hour and a half game Thursday that did everything but end up in Dodgeville's favor.
Richland Center pitcher Alex Mortimer limited Dodgeville to four hits and did not walk a batter while throwing 67 pitches over his seven innings.
The Dodgers got to him in the sixth when Trent Jones singled and reached second on an out at the plate then scored on a sharp single to left by Austin Larson. It was Larson's second hit of the game.
The Dodgers had one other hit, a single by Levi Nagel.
Richland Center scored a run in the third, Christian Mondragon singled off Brian Simmons and scored on a single by Charles McBain III after being advanced on singles by Levi Macovec and Andrew Garner.
The Hornets scored what would be the winning run in the sixth. Gander singled then advanced and scored on three Dodgeville errors.
Simmons went six frames, fanned two and gave up six hits. Only one of the two runs the Hornets scored off him was earned.
Austin Larson took over in the seventh and struck out the side. They did score when Gander singled, took second and third on two hit batsmen and scored on a wild pitch.
Macovec and Gander were 2x4 and 2x3 to lead the Hornets. Austin Haas doubled for the other Hornet hit.
"We saw one of the best pitchers in the league and hit him pretty well," said Dodgeville coach Luke Weigel. "We didn't make some plays we needed to and that was the game."
