Ottoway has his day against Southwestern

Gabe Ottoway was feeling it Friday when he put on the Mineral Point High School baseball uniform.
He felt it on the mound where he pitched four perfect innings and finished with a one-hitter as the Pointers destroyed Southwestern 13-3. He did not give up an earned run as the runs scored on three Pointer errors.
Ottoway fanned eight of the host's batters and issued one walk.
He felt it a the plate where he went 2x4, slamming a double and a grand slam home run that turned a 1-0 game into a 5-0 lead in a hurry.
"Gabe had a great day on the mound and at the plate," said coach Dan Burreson. "After the perfect game was over and they got their first base runner I thought he might have let down a little but he regained his focus. He did a great job all night getting ahead of hitters."
Ottoway scored the first run of the game for the Pointers when he doubled and scored on a single by Lee Stephenson. He accounted for four more when his blast in the third sent in Turner Poad and Terek Oellerich who had reached base with singles and Tannler Ames who walked.
A five run fourth made it 10-0. Sy Staver had an rbi double while Oellerich, Ames and Stephenson knocked in runs with singles in the frame.
After Southwestern picked up their three in the fourth the Pointers sent in three more. Oellerich's two run single was the big blow.
Oellerich was 3x4 while Poad, Ottoway and Stephenson all had two hits.
Dakota James and Tommy Olson had singles and Alec Schmitz a double for the Pointers.
"It was a great team effort at the plate," said Burreson. "Every starter had a least one hit. We had great contributions up and down the line-up."
Burreson said right fielder Tommy Olson turned in a good defensive play with a diving catch in the fifth inning.
