Eagle girls rout stubborn B/S
The Eagles held a seemingly comfortable lead at 28-16 by halftime, but at the 2:28 mark of the third quarter when B/S guard Maggie Neis went coast to coast for a layup, the score stood at 38-30.
That's when Barneveld freshman Mia Whitish buried a three point shot from the side and her team caught fire again and the score went to 55-32 by the end of three.
To top things off, they held Benton/Shullsburg scoreless in the final frame for the 30-point win.
"I told the girls at halftime thay would make a run at us," said Barneveld coach Jim Myers. "We changed our defense up and got a couple of steals, but failed to convert after them. Mia had a big three pointer when they got close. She had her best game of the season tonight."
Rachel Slaney led the Eagle scoring with 17 points, with 11 coming in the second half.
Mia Whitish hit 15, including a pair of three pointers.
Neis paced Benton/Shullsburg with a trio of three pointers.
"We played great pressure defense tonight without putting them on the free throw line," Myers pointed out. "I thought we may be a little rusty after an 11-day lay-off.
"Rachel (Slaney) had a nice game and Maggie (Oimoen) did a nice job inside for us," the coach concluded.
