Dodger girls live to see another game
This time it was in a Division 3 Regional semifinal contest held at Dodgeville and it didn't come easy.
"It was a typical third game of the year against the same team," said Dodgeville coach Josh Busch. "There were really no surprizes. We just had to grind it our."
Dodgers Megan Zoet and Kara Crowley scored all the points in the first quarter - by both teams. The score stood 5-0 with both girls hitting buckets and Zoet adding a free throw after hers.
The second period was an 8-8 standoff With Zoet, Kara Crowley and Brooke Lee hitting field goals and Taylor Stanek adding a pair of free throws.
Prairie's McKenzie Banasik had six of her teams points.
The Dodgers put a little distance between them and the Lady Blackhawks in quarter with a 10-6 margin. Lee hit four points with Stanek and Samantha Crowley both having three.
The Dodgers held a 13-12 edge down the stretch and the margin of victory could've been more except they only converted on 5 of 11 free throws.
Kennedy Stumpf came off the bench to hit four points, Zoet added four and Stanek five.
Banasik, a Prairie senior playing her final game, hit five for her team.
On the night, Stanek led the Dodger scoring with 10 with Zoet adding nine.
Banasik paced the Lady Blackhawks with a game-high 11.
"It was a very good defensive effort by us, especially in the first half," Busch pointed out. "We struggled shooting in the first half, but came on better in the second. We were able to separate ourselves from them in the third."
The win put the #2 Dodgers against #3 Madison Edgewood the next night.
