Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

It was another big weekend for boys and girls basketball in the area. Barneveld's boys team lost their bid to go to state for the first time in the school's history when they ran into a tough Cochrane-Fountain City team at La Crosse Saturday afternoon in the D5 sectional finals. Cuba City, a boys team that probably wasn't supposed to get past Mineral Point Thursday night, lost their bid to go to D4 state by four points to Blair-Taylor on Saturday night. Those two losses, coupled with Mount Horeb's loss to Greendale in D2, ending any chance of "local' teams making it to state this weekend.
The girls, on the other hand, were in regional finals. Dodgeville lost a tough one to Madison Edgewood by three points and was eliminated, but Mineral Point and Barneveld both won regional titles and advance to play Friday night. The Pointers take on a tough, but familiar, Cuba City team at Verona while Barneveld goes to Mineral Point to tackle Belmont - those two teams play in opposite divisions in the Six Rivers Conference.
Good luck to the Pointers and Eagles in the quest to get to state in Green Bay!

We received a couple more notes with subscription renewals recently. Verna Moen of Mount Horeb wrote: Enclosed please find check of $42.00 for 1 year subscription - due April 3, 2014. Although we are in our 90's we look forward to who's going to read our paper first. I enjoy the opinion page as well as anniversaries, weddings, obituaries and all. Keep up the good work. P.S. hope I qualify for the month free. Then Eugene Lindauer of Green Bay wrote: please continue (renew) our Chronicle subscription - we have enjoyed it for many many years!! It was signed - Melva Lindauer (sister of Donald Tredinnick).

The weather is beginning to warm up. That will probably mean all of this snow and ice (even the frost) will have to go somewhere. I hope it is a gradual warming up period as if it happens too fast we could get some pretty bad flooding. The cold, cold winter hasn't let too much snow and ice melt!

Next Monday (March 17th is St. Pat's Day. There will be a lot of corned beef and cabbage being served probably beginning Saturday for the St. Pat's weekend celebrations. Most of those same places will be serving it again on Monday, the traditional day!

Sunday there was a 5 year birthday party for great-niece Addison (daughter of Ryan and Lauri Reilly). Pretty much the whole family was there with brother (grandpa) Pat's kids: Darren (Michele, with Gavin and Liam), Shelly (Danielle and Grant), Kelly (Quentin, Jade and Taylor) and Amy (Emma and Reilly) all there with Ryan and Lauri's other kids: Sean and McKenna - plus some of Lauri's relatives too numerous to mention! A good time was had by all!!!
