It was quite a weekend in area sports. Saturday night, Iowa-Grant/Highland wrestler Luke Nowak won a Division 3 state championship in the 160 pound division. There were some real high placings too from Mineral Point's Brenyn Schmidt, Scotty Pittz and Ross Siegenthaler; Dodgeville's Brady Wetter; Iowa-Grant/Highland's Cody Rider and Brian Halverson; along with River Valley's Joe Crook. Also on Saturday night Barneveld, Mineral Point and River Valley boys basketball teams won regional championships as they try to make it to the state tournament. The only problem with River Valley winning is that they beat Dodgeville to claim their title! And the River Valley gymnastics team will make an appearance at the state meet as a team. They will also have several competing as individuals too, including Emma Voss in all the events plus Nikkie Rasmussen (2) and Mariah Noble in single events. Good luck to all teams and competitors!

I recently got a "Your Photo Has Been Corrupted" email in my SPAM. I figured someone had seen my picture at the top of this column and was trying (hoping I'd) to update it!

There was a recent basketball game that was won on a three pointer in overtime. The oddity about that game was that it took three days to complete! Here's a rundown of what happened - First Joshua Linson knocked out the lights. Then he knocked out Winston-Salem State, ending a basketball game that took three days to complete. The sophomore guard broke a 40-hour tie by hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 24 seconds left Friday to lead Johnson C. Smith to an 89-86 overtime win against the Rams in a bizarre game. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game was suspended Wednesday night when Linson's full-court heave with 0.3 seconds remaining shattered two lights suspended from the ceiling about 20 feet above the court, leaving one dangling perilously from a wire. The game, tied at 76, was suspended until Friday because of safety concerns. Spectators were not charged admission for the overtime period!

We received a note in a renewal for the Chronicle the other day from Marie Wenger Rowe of Dodgeville. She wrote - "A check for the Chronicle to April 20th, 2015. Enjoy the paper very much since 1937. Reading the columns of local news to know what's going on. Pat's stories - wondering how they are going to finish, but have nice endings and enjoy the back page of the paper - very interesting. Keep up the good news to read through my 95 years. God Bless!"

So is anybody out there getting SICK AND TIRED of the winter? Temperatures are supposed to warm up this week and not much snow in the forecast. Maybe things are on the upswing, but the ground is so cold it will take awhile!

Here's a news flash that just came in (Sunday night). Bob McNeill Sr. went to Florida for his 87th birthday and attended a Pirates vs. Pirates spring training baseball game and came home $500 richer. He won a 50/50 raffle they held during the game. I guess he's buying the next time I see him!
