Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

I will say we've had enough rain for awhile! It seemed to come down some every day this past week. One fellow reported 7.5" of rain. I'm sure we had well over 5 inches in town here. I hope it doesn't completely shut off for the rest of the summer, but a few days without would be good for the farmers to get some hay made and a few other things they need to do this time of year outside! And there are things that need to be done at the parks and around town too.

A couple of weeks ago "National Day of Kindness" fell I believe on a Wednesday. Anyway Jeanie from Ederer's Hardware and Dairy Supply dropped off some cookies at the Chronicle office with a sticker saying just that - Day of Kindness. That was the first I had heard of that day, but I'm sure glad she had. The cookies were good!

I heard that those on the "Hot Rod Tour" that went through here last week were real pleased with the reception they received and that it was the best here along their entire route. There was a good group of people out on the sidewalks cheering them on and waving to them as they passed through. Check out the above photo to see some of the action. It's the Rowe girls - Kiera and her twin sisters, Rayna and Rylin, welcoming the Hot Rod Power Tour group!

There will be a bunch of baseball tournaments hitting the Dodgeville scene shortly, with the first one being the state 15-year-olds at Centennial Park July 11-15. The 9 & 11 state is July 19-23 at Harris Park with the final one being the 16-18 Ohio Valley Regional July 17-21 at Centennial Park. These tournament will bring over 40 teams to the area with a bunch of fans following them - all spending money here. There is a lot that goes into holding these tournaments, so if there is anyone out there who would like to help out, please contact me or brother Pat at the Chronicle office 935-2331. One of the bigger fundraising parts of the tournaments will be the concession stand. Volunteers would be appreciated. It's work, but fun to meet the people from away. The Ohio Valley Regional fields teams from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Middle School and High School age kids would be great as well as any adults!

I guess I'm going to have to make another walk to Madison from Platteville to raise money for the UW-Platteville football stadium. Me and several Delta Sigma Phi fraternity buddies did that back in the 60's when they were raising money to build the stadium. Now with all the storm damage from the two tornadoes last week, they just may have to build another one. The one there now took quite the battering!

I ran into another Crubaugh the other day as Mark was in town from Arizona. He's actually been the male Crubaugh who has been the most civil to me over the years. It's too bad he lives so far away! He had two granddaughters from Oregon (WI) with him.
