The events of the Dairy Month
Starting out as National Milk Month in 1937, this month was used to promote drinking milk. It began when there was a surplus of product but quickly became a yearly event that is celebrated all June long.
June 7 Iowa County residents attended the 30th Annual Iowa CountyâDairy Breakfast at the Triple D Farms, presented by the Danneberg Family. Many attendies had a wonderful time with plenty of great things to eat and fun all around.
This dairy month there are still plenty of events that will be happening in our area to help everyone celebrate dairy producers.
June 20-22 the Green County Dairy Days will take place in Brooklyn, sponsored by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and the Green County Ag Chest. Friday night will be a dance on Hotel Street while Sunday will be a Pancake Breakfast followed by fire engine rides and much more.
Also that weekend is the Lafayette County Dairy Breakfast Saturday, June 21 from 6:30-10:30 at the Redrock View Farms hosted by the Steve andâLisa Carpenter. Plenty of activities await children of all ages from the petting zoo to pedal tractor pulls. Adults are $4 and children under 10 are $2.
If the farm is not your style, try the Wine and Cheese Entertaining Trail June 21-22. Four Wineries-- Spurgeon Vineyards and Winery, Highland, Whispering Winds Winery,âFennimore, Bauer-Kearns Winery, Platteville and Sinnipee Cally Vineyard and Winery, Cuba City, will be allowing people to come and sample wines and Wisconsin cheeses from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Purchase a $10 ticket at the first winery stop, which includes admission to the event for all four wineries and a souvenir wine glass. You, of course, must be 21 years old to participate in the event.
The Heidi Festival and Taste of New Glarus happen June 27-29 in downtown New Glarus. Heidi Festival is filled with great food, entertainmen, music, and fun for the whole family. Tast of New Glarus complements the festival with the streets being lined with local food and beverage stands and sidewalk sale displays. Taste of New Glarus is Saturday only.
