Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Memorial weekend was about as busy as it can get. Thursday night was a home talent night league game, so that meant the concession stand had to be opened. Friday night (after early deadline for this next week's AD-VISOR) there was a 5:00 p.m. high school baseball game, immediately followed by a home talent game, So that meant a stint at the concession stand from 4:00 to 11:30 that night. Then the home talent game was against Ridgeway, so it was pretty busy - but no beer sales! Thank goodness that Darin Nagel helped with the high school game and then stayed to help for the home talent game. We ran out of buns and brats, so I had to leave to get more and that was after I had already sent someone for buns and ice earlier! Then Saturday was a day of a bunch of graduation parties. Sunday was Dodgeville's and Iowa-Grant's graduations plus more parties. I was pretty tired Sunday morning, but by the time Monday morning came around, I was even more tired. Then Monday was Memorial Day and I was at Dodgeville's parade and ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the courthouse. That too was followed almost immediately by a home talent game with Verona. Needless to say, I didn't make it to work at my usual 7:15 a.m. time on Tuesday, but I was there before 7:45!

Oh, and mixed into all that weekend stuff was work times at the Chronicle with some typesetting to be done, photos to be downloaded and pages worked on. I know, just another day at the office!

I got to have a long talk with former Dodgeville graduate and longtime friend Rodney Matz as he was back for the Veterans Day commemoration. He had cousins distributing poppies during the reading of those veterans who have died. Rodney was running around with his camera as he has been a professional photographer for quite a few years. He said he's 75% retired now at age 71!

I was driving back to Dodgeville from the Barneveld area the other day and I was pinned in by IOWA drivers. I had one in front of me, another behind me and yet another alongside me. I wonder if they are Chronicle subscribers?!!!

The Iowa County Dairy Breakfast is in two weeks (June 7) at the Dannenberg farm, between Mineral Point and Darlington. That, not only, is a great breakfast, but a time to socialize with people of the farming community and learn a lot about farming. There are also some great things for the youngsters to check out and have a good time with - don't miss it!

Also in two weeks will be state track in La Crosse. Hopefully the Dodgeville-Mineral Point teams will have a great representation there - and I'm sure they will!

I hope this week's column gets printed OK. I have issues with my computer as I am writing it. Everything looks very infared, abstract or something like that. Anyway, I can hardly read what I'm typing!
