Breaking up with winter
By Todd D. Novak-tnovak@thedodgevillechronicle.com
You know I never really had a problem with you before. It doesn't seem that long ago when I longed for you to visit. As a youngster I couldn't wait to spend every waking hour outside no matter how much snow you gave us or how cold it was. Your winter gifts bring back fond memories from my childhood. We had fun playing in the snow and cold and once and awhile you gave me the gift of making sure school was called off so we could spend the snow day together. You and I had a good thing going.
You seemed to grow on me the older I got. It used to be that when you and I met in November, I was totally into you. You made everything seem so fresh and new. I never used to understand how people would leave to go down south before you even got here. I figured you must have done something bad to really upset all those people to make them "snow birds." However, the older I get, the more envy those "snow birds."
And then there's your coldness towards me. There have been so many days in the past month when things have been great - my job, my friends, my family. And then WHAM - your coldness slams into me. This year you have been hard on all of us. You seem to have no qualms about dumping snow on us or dropping temperatures to bone chilling cold. You seem to want to be remembered, talked about and dealt with. I get it! We all need time to shine. I hope you get what you are looking for.
Winter, I used to stick up for you when people complained. You know what? I can't do it anymore. It's too late to try and make up. I just don't get that warm feeling when I hold you, I never really did. People always said you were frigid, and you know what, they were right. Face it, you knew this wouldn't last.
I am never good at this type of thing but I think it time to go our separate ways. It's not me it was you!!! You became way too over bearing and boarder line stalker with how much you crept up on me. I really do think it's time I start seeing other seasons. Take care and good luck.
