Dodgers get by stubborn Lady Hornets

This game could almost be billed as "The Taylor Stanek Show" - but it takes five players on the court to make a team.
But, Stanek did her part in leading the Dodgeville girls basketball team to a key SWC win 52-45 Thursday night over host Richland Center.
All the multi-talented Dodger junior was score baskets at key times early in the game, come up with 11 points - including two huge steals she converted into three point plays in the fourth quarter - and score 23 points to lead all scorers.
The Dodgers held a 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and Stanek nailed a trey to open the second frame then with six seconds remaining before intermission, she hit another from downtown to give her team a 25-19 lead going into halftime. She had eight points in that frame.
The Lady Hornets crept back into the contest in a big way with a 10-5 edge in the third frame with Stanek being held to one point, but sophomore Kennedy Stumpf coming off the bench to score a bucket and free throw and Megan Pluemer also filling in due to some foul trouble and hitting a charity toss, but the lead was just 30-29 with eight minutes left.
The first big turing point of the game came when Dodger Samantha Crowley opened the fourth frame with a bucket and then Richland Center missed two free throws. Stanek made them pay with a three pointer and the Dodger lead was suddenly six at 35-29.
Samantha Crowley got free for a lay-in and Stanek came up with a steal and another layup.
Dodger Brooke Lee made a bucket on a drive, but Lady Hornet Leigh Drury went 3x4 from the line and a Brooklyn Liegel steal and pass to Lexi Ewing for a lay-in cut the lead to 47-43.
RC got the ball back on a turnover, but then came the dagger as Stanek picked a Lady Hornet's pocket for another steal, drove in for the bucket, was fouled and made the free throw for a 50-43 lead with a minute left.
Stanek was the lone Dodger to reach double figures, but seven of her teammates also scored.
"Talor made some big shots to keep us in it," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "Overall I didn't feel we played very well."
He also said that Sam (Crowley) hit a big shot down the stretch and Brooke (Lee) had all of her six points in the fourth.
"They (Center) threw a lot of different defenses at us," the coach pointed out. "I had warned the girls before the game they'd see that."
Richland Center was led by Drury's 14 points, 11 coming from the foul line as she was dogged defensively all night by Stanek.
"Sam and Spidey Stanek) did a good job on Drury and then Spidey got a couple of big steals off her down the stretch," Busch said.
Liegel added 12 to the Lady Hornet cause.
