Balance keys Pointers over Fennimore

One thing about the five Mineral Point players who reached double figures in a 70-47 win at Fennimore Friday was that no one scored big at any one time.
Trevor Wendhausen had 15 with four in the first, second and third quarters and three in the fourth.
Alec Schmitz scored 14 with three in the first and fourth and four in the second and third.
Sy Staver and Chanler Leonard both added 13. Staver had a silent first quarter then had five, seven and two points. Leonard, who had another crowd pleasing dunk, had quarters of four, three, two and four.
Turner Poad had 12 with five in the first, three in the second and two each in the final two frames.
Joey Gorgen rounded out the scoring with a three pointer in the fourth frame.
A 19-11 second quarter put distance between the two teams after a 16-10 opening frame. The Pointers got out early the third quarter and doubled the Golden Eagles, 18-9.
The Eagles did have a player take game honors as Mitch Davis put up 23 points.
"We worked at shutting down everyone else and Davis got away from us a few times," said Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson.
Burreson was pleased with what he saw from the Pointers.
"I thought it was a pretty good effort and was an improvement over our last time out," Burreson said. "We controlled the boards, moved the ball well, had great scoring balance and took some things away defensively."
"A number of players contributed in several positive ways," Burreson said. "Chanler and Trevor had 12 and 11 rebounds respectively."
The 11 boards gave Leonard a double double."
Poad added six rebounds and Burreson said Staver also had some big boards."
Poad had five assists to go along with five steals. Schmitz and Wendhausen both had six assists.
"We moved the ball well tonight," Burreson said.
He added that Joey Gorgen provided spark tonight with three steals.
