Dodger girls dump Platteville
The Lady Hillmen jumped to a 5-0 lead, but by the time the first eight minutes had gone by the Lady Dodgers led 19-8 - thanks mainly to nine points by junior Taylor Stanek and the team just picking up their defense and offense.
"After that little run by Platteville, we picked up our intensity and we had our own 14-0 run to end the quarter," said Dodger coach Josh Busch.
The Lady Hillmen got as close as they would by halftime at 29-19 and held that 10-point margin early into the third, but some of Dodgeville's bench got into the scoring act and sophomore Kennedy Stumpf hit five points in that frame. The Dodgers amassed 19 points while holding Platteville to 9 in the third for a commanding 48-28 lead.
"We got some very good play off of our bench," Busch added. "We're pretty deep athletically and we'll need these girls to step up down the road."
Stanek led all scorers with 17 points and was the lone Dodger to reach double digits. In all, 11 Dodgers scored leading Busch to say, "We had really good balance tonight. To have only one player get into double figures and win by 25 is pretty good."
Platteville's Cassie Hamer led them in scoring with 16 with 12 coming in the first half.
"She hit three 3's in the first half, but we did a better job recognizing where she was after that," Busch said.
He said his team still had two drawbacks on the night.
"We didn't shoot free throws very well (9/20) and we left way too many points out on the court." - meaning they missed quite a few easy shots and layups.
The Dodgers carry a 3-0 SWC record and are 6-2 overall.
