Cardinal boys get much needed win
The Cardinals led 8-11 after one quarter and scored the first two points in the second frame. But, the Hornets cut into that lead and Highland led just 28-26 by intermission - mainly thanks to a three pointer each by Riley Crapp and John Ross Linscheid.
"We started doing things that got us in trouble in that second quarter," said Highland coach Mitchell Dorshorst.
"We went back to the way we were playing in the first quarter in the third," he added.
That's when they outscored W/S 12-8.
The put the finishing touches on the contest with a 14-12 edge in the final period - mainly on free throws.
"We were 6 for 8 down the stretch. Both Bailey Bodenstein and Austin Yager were 2 for 2 late in the game," Dorshorst pionted out.
On the night, Bodenstein hit 14 pints with Yager adding 13.
Wauzeka-Steuben's Jonah Huber led them with 13 while Turner Krachey hit double figures with 10.
"We had overall hustle from everybody in the second half," Dorshorst said. "We were diving for every loose ball and getting a good share of them."
The Cardinals entertain Potosi Thursday night and host Shullsburg Tuesday.
They are now 1-4 in Six Rivers West play and 2-10 oversall.
