Murphy flashback includes win over Dodgers
Friday he was able to pick up another win over the Dodgers, this time as he walked the coach's box for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe earned a 64-42 win over the Dodgers in a non-conference game and used a 22 point second quarter as a springboard.
The Dodgers led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter but after being Dr. Jekyll they quickly became Mr. Hyde.
"We had as many turnovers as we had shots the first half," said Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack. "We wanted to get some questions answered tonight but I think we created some new ones."
The Cheesemakers dominated the boards the second quarter and scored most of their 22 points in transition. They also took advantage of several Dodgeville turnovers.
"We had trouble taking care of the ball and we didn't box out well in the second quarter," Bohnsack said. "The rest of the game we spent trying to get something going but it was too much to overcome."
The turnover plague stayed with the Dodgers throughout the game as they ended up with 17.
The Dodgers got some scoring from Matthew Clerkin and Levi Nagel early but the Cheesemakers eventually shut them down. Clerkin finished with 10 and Nagel 12.
Sophomore scoring leader Trent Jones was held to a single basket.
"They had a hand in his face all night," Bohnsack said.
"We are having problems with movement with our offense," said Bohnsack. "Our offensive success is based on moving and we aren't doing well with that."
Monroe was a physical opponent and Bohnsack expects to see the same when the Dodgers go to Sauk City Thursday for an exhibition game.
"They are physical too and to have success against them we will have to get things figured out."
Monroe got a 23 point performance from Jake Hirsbrunner with Kylan Helmeid adding 12.
"Hirsbrunner is the real deal," Bohnsack said. "He is a tremendous player."
