Dodger girls fall at Preble
"We didn't have an answer for the Samuels girl in side. She was pretty tall and fairly wide. She knew how to use her body," said Dodger coach Josh Busch.
That Samuels girl was Isabella Samuels, who finished the contest with a game-high 16 points. Teammate Haley Malcore added 11.
The Dodgers led at 13-12 when the first quarter closed with Taylor Stanek hitting eight points. But found themselves down 29-27 at the half as Samuels hit six makers for Preble in that quarter.
Then came the stagnant third period. The Dodgers could only manage six points, with three coming on a three pointer by Brooke Lee.
Preble answered with 11 and hit two from downtown to go along with four points by Samuels.
They led 40-33 at that point.
The Dodgers cut the lead to one several times, but Preble would answer any of their baskets with a bucket of their own.
"We'd score, then they'd score. We just couldn't get that stop we needed. Then it came down to putting them at the free throw line, Busch said.
Preble wasn't very prolific at the line, but they hit just enough, going 9/20 in the final frame.
On the night, Stanek led the Dodgers in scoring with 15 points while Megan Zoet added 10 and Kara Crowley chipped in with 9.
"It was a good environment and we played a different team," Busch pointed out. We just let them get to the line too much. And we went stagnant in the half court, but we did create some turnovers off of our press."
The Dodgers committed 17 turnovers. Samantha Crowley led in assists with four while Zoet and Lee had five and four rebounds to their credit.
