Dodgers lose title chance

It came down to a last shot(s) -one that just rolled off and another that went in just before the final buzzer.
The Dodgeville boys basketball team had to beat Richland Center Friday night to tie them for the SWC conference championship. It wasn't meant to be however.
The Dodgers held an 11-10 lead in the first quarter, but then trailed by 13 in the third quarter.
They inched closer and got to within six at the close of that frame when senior Austin Larson swished a shot from half court to beat the buzzer.
They took their first lead since that opening quarter at 65-63 when Austin Larson scored with 1:57 remaining.
Richland Center tied it at the 1:26 mark when Alex Mortimer missed the front end of a bonus free throw, but he hustled and got his own rebound and put it back in.
Dodgeville outscored the Hornets 21-17 down the stretch. But, with the score tied at 65, they worked the ball to hold for the final shot and when guard Levi Nagel drove the lane in an attempt to score game's final basket it bounced around the rim and rolled off. Hornet Alex Mortimer coralled the tipped rebound near the out of bounds, found guard Kyle Brenninger near mid-court and he hit a streaking Evan Stanek who just beat the buzzer with a layup that caught the Dodgers off guard as he had outrun everybody down the court.
The result was a 67-65 win by the Hornets and the conference title was all theirs as River Valley lost to Platteville that same night. A win by the Dodgers and also by River Valley would've caused the same scenario as last year - tri conference champs and with the same teams sharing.
Larson and sophomore Trent Jones both hit 22 points to lead their team in scoring.
Jones nailed five three pointers, two in the first quarter, two in the third and one in the fourth. Larson hit one in the second and third quarters and three down the stretch.
The Dodgers hit 13 from downtown on the night.
But it was the 6'6" Mortimer who put the main damper on the Dodger win as he scored a game-high 34 points. He also found the 6'4" Luke Anderson three times for easy lay-ins from their high low work.
