sports players who was a Hallmark TV Channel "junkie", especially at
Christmas time. She said she would get all teared up watching those
movies. Well, I'm not a UW Badgers sports personality, but that fits me
very well. I probably have watched that channel (especially the Christmas
movies) over and over again and I mean over and over again - each year.
They never seem to get old. It's just too bad that I am not home that often
to see them all, but probably sometime during the time they are shown -
Thanksgiving on until Christmas - I may have just caught every one of
them!

Sunday in church I caught a glimpse of a real Christmas gift. There were
some younger people waiting in the lobby with little kids. Another family
member came in with his wife and kids (someone I hadn't seen in quite
some time) and pretty soon the parents came in. When the mother saw her
son she broke out in tears. It was a complete surprise to her that he was
going to be there. They hugged for a good minute!

Following being at church I made may way to the Community Christmas
Meal that is hosted annually at Culver's (see photo above). I arrived at about
noon when serving was supposed to begin and the place was packed. I was
told it had been that way since around 11:00 a.m. after they finished getting
the carryouts ready for volunteers to deliver. I was also told they were getting
short on food. It's great when people come together to make sure everyone
has a Christmas meal!

It certainly wasn't a White Christmas this year. I'll have to do a little digging
and find out how much RAIN we've gotten in December. Boy, if it had
been all snow, we would be still digging out!

Another the little Christmas story I heard came from a young mother who
had to tell her little girl that they couldn't afford the American Girl doll she
wanted this year because they are buying a house. But on Christmas morning
that American Girl doll was under tree - thanks SANTA!

The end of this year ends the many years that Todd Novak has worked for
us here at the Chronicle. He officially begins his term in Madison as state
assemblyman and will also remain serving as Dodgeville's mayor - that
probably is enough on his plate!

The "Four Amigos" made the trek to Piccadilly Lilly Restaurant at the
Lone Rock Airport Saturday for breakfast. It was quite the trip and the food
was very good. Being "out of towners" when we walked into the restaurant
everyone turned and looked at us and nobody said a word. Out loud I said,
"Boy it sure got quiet in here" and Dewey said "Doesn't anyone talk in
here" - that got a pretty good chuckle from everyone! It reminded me of one
of those scenes you see on TV or at the movies when the "city slickers"
walk into the local restaurant!

I had a late birthday present Saturday when good friend Judy Fortney
treated me to a visit to Steve's pizza in Platteville. We got caught up a lot
on news, especially families and took a tour of both Mineral Point and
Dodgeville seeing the Christmas light. - lot of fun!
