Dodger girls tough it out with River Valley

Dodgeville's girls basketball team, ranked number one in the state in Division 3, beat River Valley 46-28 Thursday but it wasn't as easy as it looked.
"They just wouldn't go away," said Dodgeville coach Mark Dooley. "We got the lead up to 20 but they came back. They are a pretty good basketball team."
An 11-2 first quarter run helped the Dodgers get untracked but the second quarter saw the Blackhawks kick it in gear.
The second half was much closer as the Dodgers only outscored River Valley 18-16 the final two frames.
"It was a tough game," Dooley said. "River Valley played us pretty well."
But the Dodgers would not let the Hawks get close enough to be in catch-up range.
"We battled," Dooley said. "It wasn't an awesome game but it was pretty good. We had a couple runs that gave us some room and it was an overall good team effort."
Taylor Stanek, Hannah Jones and Kara Crowley led the Dodgers with nine points each but it was the leadership of senior guard Samantha Crowley that guided the Dodgers through the rough spots.
"She did a good job of providing us leadership," Dooley said.
Taylor Briehl led River Valley with seven points while Kylie Hoffman added six and Lindsey Drachenberg five.
