Dodge-Point gymnasts trip Reedsburg

Dodgeville-Mineral Point's gymnastics team came close to a school mark in their opening dual meet of the season topping visiting Reedsburg 124.625 to 116.675.
"The girls had a great meet against Reedsburg on Thursday night, scoring 124.625 points which is only 1.325 points shy of the all-time school record set in the 98-99 season," Dodge-Point coach Julia Oellerich said.
"We went up against a tough team and came out ahead," Oellerich pointed out. "Lauren May had a great night, scoring personal bests on floor finishing in first place with a score of 8.425, on beam finishing third place with a score of 8.05, and on bars finishing third place with a score of 7.9. She also placed second on vault with a score of 8.6. Tori Palzkill also did great, taking first place on bars with a personal best score of 8.75. She also took the school record with this score, breaking her own record set last year. She also finished first on beam with 8.35, and third on floor with a 8.1. Both Palzkill and May did well in the all-around competition, Palzkill taking first with a 33.1 and May in second with a 32.975."
Other scores were: vault-Alyssa Belling 8.1, Tori Palzkill 7.9, Miranda Weber and Winndie Darrow 7.5; bars-Belling 6.975, Martina Steffes 5.975, Weber 5.95; floor-Claire Polinag 7.6, Belling 7.55, Weber 7.425; beam-Belling 7.55, Polinag 7.3, Weber 7.25; All-Around-Belling 30.175, Weber 28.125.
"Their hard work is paying off. Each meet they increase their scores and beat their personal bests. You can really see the confidence shining through," Oellerich said.
"Our next meet is against Mount Horeb on the 8th on January, so we will have a few weeks to work on cleaning up our routines and incorporating more difficult elements," she concluded.
In JV action, Dodge-Point fell to Reedsburg 77.675 to 63.375 mainly due to lack of competitors in some of the events.
Dodge-Point won each event with Winndie Darrow taking first on bars, floor and beam with Martina Steffes capturing the vault.
Scores were: vault-Martina Steffes 7.65 (1st), Claire Polinag 5.95; bars-Winndie Darrow 4.75 (1st); floor-Darrow 7.5 (1st), Steffes 6.5 (3rd), Katy Henson 5.2, Hannah Metlach 3.9; beam-Darrow 6.6 (1st), Steffes 6.45 (2nd), Metlach 4.55, Henson 4.35.
