Pointers blaze past Fennimore
"A key to our offense is our willingness to share the basketball," he added.
And when it came to sharing, the Pointers were in sync all the way.
They found the open man often enough for the Pointers to drain a dozen three pointers which were virtually uncontested because of the accurate passing. Alec Schmitz had five from beyond the arc fall in for a 21 point performance. Joey Gorgen got the same number to drop and finished with 17. Turner Poad netted two and also picked up 17 points.
It started early as Gorgen nailed a pair of threes in the first quarter to help the Pointers to an 18-10 lead. Tarek Oellerich and Schmitz both put in four points in the frame.
Schmitz hit for a trifecta in the second quarter and when Poad also flipped in a three the Pointers came away with four in the frame and a 36-20 halftime lead.
Three more threes fell in the third frame, all from Gorgen.
In the fourth, before Burreson turned the game over to his bench, Schmitz had two more and Poad one.
"Alec and Joey really shot the ball well, took good shots and got to the glass," commented Burreson. "Turner can do a lot of different things offensively."
But someone had to get those with the hot hand the ball.
"Sy did a nice job distributing the ball and getting everyone involved," Burreson said.
He also felt Oellerich had a good outing.
"Tarek continues to play well on both ends of the floor," he said.
Team defense also helped the Pointers decide the game.
"Defensively an outstanding effort from all five guys on the floor," said Burreson. "Our defense was able to create some easy offensive opportunities. Fennimore shoots the ball well, but we did not give them a lot of easy looks. Turner Poad is relentless on the defensive side of the floor. I thought Joey Gorgen did a nice job defensively, too."
When Burreson substituted he felt those players also performed their roles well.
"Good minutes off of the bench from Steven Blume who played well defensively, Taylor Ryman who continues to do a lot of little things and Dylan Macgilvra who was very effective around the basket on both ends of the floor," Burreson said.
