Darlington/Black Hawk won its own wrestling invitational Saturday with Dodgeville finishing third, Mineral Point Reserves sixth and Pecatonica/Argyle 11th in the 11 team tournament.
Final scores were: D/BH 218, Mount Horeb/Barneveld 202, Dodgeville 194, Parkview 150, Milwaukee Madison 94, Mineral Point Reserves 86, River Ridge/Cassville 84, Rio/Fall River/Cambria Friesland/Pardee-ville 82, Madison Memorial 78, Belmont/Platteville 75, Pecaton-ica/Argyle 59.
Dodgeville's John Phelan (126) and Brady Wetter (195) won titles as did Pec/Argyle's Casey Phillips at 120.
Wetter didn't even spend the equivalent of one period (2:00) on the mat with three quick pins.
"After Thursday night's dual, Saturday however we had a completely different team. The 1st match jitters were gone and I think they all wrestled exceptionally well," said Dodger coach Tim Wunnicke. "We end up 3rd as a team and every kid scored team points for us. Brady Wetter and John Phelan went undefeated on the day and several other only had one loss."
He added, "We have to keep in mind that we are a very young team and I'm sure it will be a roller coaster ride with some real high points and some low point to go with them. If we get some good mat time and as young as this team is we could be a team to reckon with."
Pointer coach Scott Schmitz said, "I felt our reserves represented our school very well at a varsity tournament. It's nice to know you have back-up guys to rely on. Lucas got to the finals and lost in overtime."
