A change for the better

For those of you who remember when Madison had both an AM and PM
newspaper you may be like me and miss The Capital Times.
The Capital Times was the afternoon Madison newspaper. It was edited
by Dave Zweifel, a good friend and a brilliant newsman. It was a read I
looked forward to every day it was published.
Several years ago Lee Enterprises decided that one newspaper in
Madison was enough. To their credit they did not close down The Capital
Times completely. They decided to publish it once a week as a weekly
newspaper, including it in The Wisconsin State Journal, at newsstands and
online. While it isn't quite the same it is still a good newspaper to read.
Besides the CT (Capital Times) the Wisconsin State Journal also had 77
Square as a weekly insert. That publication gave the social scene in
Madison and the surrounding area attention. It was a good tool to see what
was going on in the city.
Now another move has been made. The CT will now include 77 Square
and be published once a week. The idea is to bring the news and opinions
to readers along with the events taking place that week.
That should make the CT an even better read.
Publishing the CT in a weekly fashion also tells the public that weekly
newspapers are important. It seems to bring readers the best of all worlds-
--the printed word in daily, weekly and online fashion.
We are looking forward to the new idea which will be in the form of a relatively
new entry into the newspaper field. We will be among its readers.
