Top ranked Vikings slow Dodgers
Dodgeville's boys basketball team did that last Tuesday when they met the Mount Horeb Vikings, the pre-season pick for the number one slot in the Division 2 polls.
The Vikings showed off their football legs and rolled past the Dodgers 59-40. They eased to a 16-9 first quarter lead and never looked back.
"Mt. Horeb is a tough first game matchup and I anticipate they will be a powerful presence in their conference and into the post season," said Dodgeville coach Ryan Bohnsack.
The Vikings were led by 6-2 Drew Frederickson with 19 points and 6-6 Terek Nesheim who added 13.
Dodgeville got 16 points from 6-2 junior guard Trent Jones and 11 from 6-0 senior guard Levi Nagel.
Bohnsack said there was some good defense played but rebounds were lacking.
"Defensively I was very pleased with our efforts on the first shot attempt," Bohnsack said. "Unfortunately Mt. Horeb was also getting a second and even third attempt to score. Not many teams will miss three shots in a row on a given possession."
Bohnsack the Dodgers reacted and he felt they did a good job when they did.
"We were very pleased with some of the adjustments we have been making in our program and we believe we will see more success this upcoming season because of them," Bohnsack said. "We have a good group of athletes to work with this season and they are determined to make this season special"
