Along The Ad Routes

It was a very warm weekend with a lot of humidity. Sunday was the Dodgeville Lions Club's second Antique Show & Flea Market held at Harris Park. There was a pretty decent breeze going through the covered pavilion, so it was standable inside. The real warmth didn't really hit until around 2:00 p.m. when things were starting to wind down. We had a small fan (courtesy of Mike and Carolyn Tiber) in the concession stand. When I took it down around 3:00, one of the vendors yelled out to"turn it on"! I exited the premises before it was time to take the tables down and store them - pretty smart on my part!

This coming weekend is Labor Day weekend and there's always a lot happening at that time. The Iowa County Fair runs Thursday through Monday at the Iowa County Fairgrounds in Mineral Point. The annual animal auction that helps support the youth takes place Saturday evening. There's something going on each day that will please the entire family. The Iowa County Cattlemans Association serves "the best" streak sandwiches during the steer show Saturday and during the auction. I always kid them that their "pork sandwiches are the best"! That stems from the fact that I used to show purebred hampshire hogs at the fair and pork sandwiches were what our 4H Club used to sell at auctions and sales at the fairgrounds. That was just a couple of years ago!
The above photo shows an empty youth cattle barn at the fairgrounds that will be filled with youngsters and their animals starting Thursday!

Ridgeway holds a huge Labor Day celebration with a lot of things going on all day long. That could also be considered "reunion day" for a lot of the former Ridgeway graduates.

Highland's Firemen also hold a big Labor Day celebration with the village park being the center of attention. They cook up some pretty good chicken and have a big concession stand going on with ball games and a lot more!

The Brewers had a huge win Sunday over the nemesis Pittsburg Pirates from their own division. They are in first place yet - it's been that way since sometime in early April. Here's hoping they can keep it going and win the division and go deep into the playoffs!

School started Wednesday in Highland with the rest of the schools pretty much starting this next week - after Labor Day. You might know the hot weather would really kick in right now!

Niece Shelly had a "13th" birthday party for great-niece Danielle Saturday. Boy, it's hard to believe that she's a teenager. I don't know where the years have gone!
