Our freedom of speech
By by Kayla Barnes-
This is the very first amendment of the Bill of Rights. It is very important. That is why it is first.âI want to talk about our freedom of speech. We all have the right to our own opinion and to make our own thoughts. Not everyone is going to agree on the same subjects and that it just fine.
Social media allows us to speak our mind and lets the entire world see what we have to say. Some is harmless and has absolutely no meaning. Other things said are just abusing our freedom of speech and very offensive. Other subjects talked about are blown way out of proportion and then people start trying to ban others from social media sites such as Twitter or Facebook.
There are some citizens out there that just want to make a fuss and rile others up into a tizzy. They want attention and will get it if they say something inappropriate. There are the exception of people who want to make a serious statement of their feelings.
I have constantly been hearing people say that once you get something onto the internet it is hard to get it back off. Once it's out there, it is out there for life and hard to erase from others to see. That is a consequence that the younger generation has to deal with. Social media may be a fun but it can turn around and bite you.
We should be proud and overjoyed to have freedom of speech. Though there are many countries that have it, there are those that don't have the freedom; Iran, NorthâKorea, Cuba, Somalia.âWe need to take care of our freedom and ourselves in general.
So before saying anything, stop and think: how will this affect others or more importantly how will this affect myself in the long run. If it is your opinion. There is nothing anyone else can do but try and persuade you towards a different opinion.
Social media is a fickle friend. It can make your day or turn your life upside down. So be safe with your words and act responsibly.
