Pointers take control in 6-2 win over Darlington

After Darlington got to Gabe Ottoway for two runs in the first inning the Mineral Point hurler said enough is enough,
Ottoway then rolled through the next six innings unscored upon while his teammates were working their way to a 6-2 win. Ottoway spaced eight his, three that led to the two first inning scores, in the SWAL game.
Ottoway struck out five and walked one. A hit batsman started things for the Redbirds but Ottoway settled down after the opening frame
"It was a good win over a team with a lot of returning players," said coach Dan Burreson. "We got a very solid effort on the mound by Gabe. He seemed to get stronger in the middle innings."
Dakota James, Mineral Point's senior catcher, got the Pointers on the board in the second inning when he singled in Lee Stephenson who had walked and moved up on a bunt by Tommy Olson.
Sy Staver then singled James to third and Turner Poad sent him home with a rbi single to tie things at 2-2.
A three run fifth got the Pointers the lead. After Poad tripled, Tarek Oellerich got the Pointers the lead with a sac fly to left. After Ottoway singled, Alec Schmitz doubled for a run and then scored on a single by Stephenson.
An insurance run crossed in the sixth for the Pointers. James got his second hit of the game an eventually scored on an error.
Poad and James were both 2x3. Sy Staver, Oellerich, Ottoway and Stephenson all had one hit.
"Sy played real well defensively at short and Tarek made a couple nice plays at first," Burreson said. "Offensively a number of different guys had big hits. It was nice to see us get production from a number of different players again tonight."
