Dodge-Point girls win, boys 2nd at Belleville


Dodgeville-Mineral Point's girls cross country team won and the boys took second Saturday at the Belleville invitational.
The girls scored 31 points with Baraboo the runner-up with 62.
Dodge-Point's Brittany Rhyner finished third in 16:42, trailing only Clinton's Julia Kaster (16:08) and Belleville's Noelle Maire (16:13).
D-P's Emily Philipps was fifth in 16:52 with Mikaela Bakker right behind finishing sixth in 17:09.
Mary Hanson was eighth in 17:35 with McKenzie Hall ninth in 17:4 and Megan Hottmann 10th in 17:45 to round out the varsity.

Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw taked about his varsity girls, "The varsity girls won the Belleville Invite by a large margin, beating 2nd place Baraboo with a score of 31 to 62. Brittany Rhyner placed 3rd with a time of 16:42 to lead the Dodge-Point varsity girls to a victory. It was nice that the JV girls also won the meet." We look forward to the Janesville Midwest invite on Saturday, which is our largest meet of the year.
The rest of the team scores were: Evansville 72, Clinton 97, Belleville 103, Pecatonica/Argyle 157. Holy Family, Home School, Johnson Creek, Southwestern/Cuba City and St. Ambrose Academy did not field a complete team.
Baraboo won the boys meet with 26 points to Dodge-Point's 57.
D-P's Tyler Wunnicke finished runner-up to Baraboo's Marek Sokolowski 17:26 to 17:55.

"The varsity boys took second to a very good Division I school, Baraboo," McGraw said. "Tyler Wunnicke led the Dodge-Point boys with a second place finish of 17:55. The JV boys also took second. It is exciting to see the runners working so hard and improving week to week."
The rest of the boys team scores were: Belleville 73, Evansville 104, Clinton 136, Holy Family 154. Johnson Creek, Pecatonica/Argyle, Southwestern/Cuba City and St. Ambrose Academy ran without complete teams.
McGraw concluded talking about the teams'next meet - "We look forward to the Janesville Midwest invite on Saturday, which is our largest meet of the year. It is held this Saturday, September 28 at the Blackhawk Golf Course, just south of Janesville (exit 174A)."
