Arrows come back to beat Dodgers

The one thing you don't want to do when you play the Lancaster football team is spend much time blinking.
Because if you do you just might miss something.
After taking a 14-6 lead and being tied at 14 all after the first quarter the Dodgeville gridders saw the Flying Arrows do what they do best....fly and score. They put 34 points on the board and took a comfortable 48-14 lead into the half.
The game finished with the Arrows winning the SWC battle 62-20.
John Gieson scored the first touchdown of the game on the Arrows side of the board when he caught a 10 yard pass.
Dodgeville answered with a 17 yard Austin Larson to Jason Gullickson pass and Jake Hanson kicked the extra point for a 7-6 lead.
With 1:33 left in the quarter Larson found Travis Sigg open and the 14 yard pass play resulted in a touchdown and Hanson's kick made it 14-6.
The Dodgers put the kickoff in the air and Brett Snider ran 75 yards to score. Nate Tranel got into the endzone with a two point conversion to tie the game.
Then came the onslaught.
The second quarter was less than a minute old when Snider carried the ball 34 yards to score.
Four minutes later Tranel scored on a 48 yard scamper.
With 4:46 to play Tyler Glass completed a drive with a two yard plunge.
With 2:23 left Snider caught a Tranel pass and took it 75 yards to score.
With 59 ticks left in the half Alec Thompson grabbed a pass from Tranel and scored from 19 yards out.
Jake Taylor kicked four extra points in the frame for the 48-14 lead.
With the clock running most of the second half the Arrows used two big plays to score twice more. Glass ran for a 60 yard touchdown in the third quarter and third string quarterback Cole Martin found enough room to roam 32 yards for the final Arrow tally. Taylor kicked the extra points.
Dodgeville got the last lick when second string quarterback Isaac Nagle scrambled for a 10 yard score with 3:52 left in the game.
Larson completed seven of 23 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns.  Nagel completed both his tosses for 20 yards.
Logan Yeager had the brunt of Dodgeville's 174 rushing yards with 121 on 19 carries.
Sigg caught four passes for 57 yards.
Matthew Clerkin led in tackles with six while Sigg had five and Yeager, Nate Hottmann and Sam Gollon all had four.
"One thing we noticed this year was that the kids believed in themselves and their ability to compete with Lancaster," said coach Ryan Bohnsack. "That's something we haven't seen a lot of since Dodgeville beat them back in 2003."
Bohnsack said the Arrows eventually figured things out.
"We didn't execute our schemes on special teams and defense which allowed Lancaster two easy scores in the first quarter," Bohnsack said. "They have a successful system figured out in Lancaster and they deserve a lot of credit for the success they continually have over their opponents. With the game even at 14 after the first quarter we individually made too many mistakes that allowed Lancaster easy scores throughout the second and third quarter. But, I'm proud of how we prepared and the program we have going."
