I've got to talk about the Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation (DASFI) golf outing that was held Sunday at Dodge Point Country Club. The weather people predicted rain during the night and morning on Sunday and they hit it on the head! They also said scattered showers throughout mostly the morning on Sunday. They hit it on the head! Tee off time was supposed to be 11:30 a.m., but with the rain that was coming down it was postponed until noon. Then, with rain still coming down, it was postponed until 12:30. People still got a little wet early in the afternoon, but it subsided and turned out to be a pretty nice day to play golf. The sun even came out - after almost everyone had completed play! The DASFI committee and Dodge Point staff scrambled to move everything (registration, raffle sales and food) inside - that all pretty much usually takes place outside. It looked as if there was going to be a 3-way tie with a 60 score, but the team of Terry Edwards, Ed Edwards, Jim Smith and Tim Hardyman came in with a 59 at the end! There were a bunch of great golf packages (Bergamont, Edelweiss, Trappers Turn) raffled off along with 4 Packer Tickets and a lot more. There were also some pretty good hole, drive and closest to pin prizes. It was a fun day and the 125+ golfers had a great time. One of the day's highlights came at the end when Kathryn McGraw's famous apple pies were raffled off. The Class of '65 (with Joe Meudt and Kramer "Butch" Rock doing most of the bidding) bought one for $275. And not to be outdone, the Class of '67 (mainly Mark Van Epps), with the Class of '87 coming close, bought the other one for $275. That's $550 worth of eating that happened before those people left!

The above photo is of Bob Wilson, class of '65, who comes all the way from Florida to play in this tournament every year!

It's always great to see the people who take part in the DASFI golf tournament. The "senior" team totalled abut 302 years of age and was made up of Bob McNeill, Joe Esch, Bert Schwantes and Curt Prideaux. A great husband and wife team was made up of "usuals" Earl and Betty Williams and Ron and Joyce Evans. Also, another "older" team was that of Gary Schill, Bob Menamin, Jerry Hermanson and Johnny Crubaugh. It's great to see so much support from alumni that I watched compete as a young kid!

Last Friday, a bunch of Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce members, finished putting up the cornstalks along the downtown main street. The scouts did the west side, so we did the east side. I got yelled at for wearing a short sleeved shirt, but I gutted it out and really didn't scratch up my arms - that must be the old farm boy in me yet!

At the DASFI golf outing, Rick Birk, the man who has written a book on (basically) the Dodgeville '63 and '64 state basketball teams that talks about the other sports of those years along with a touch on the '62 golf team - the very first Dodgeville golf team that I was a part of. It's called "Dodgeville-Capturing Hearts". You will be hearing more about this book soon. It will be available around November 1st and can be ordered on the DASFI website at any time. It will be available at various businesses too. Part of the proceeds will go to DASFI for scholarships.
