It was quite a night at the Dodgeville Athletic Hall of Fame get together following Friday night's football game. Several people who hadn't been to one before commented about how great an event it is!âIt was fantastic to see the members of the 1963 football team who made it back (see photo) and coaches Ray Heim and Jim Cook made it even more special!âGary Tyrer is a member and is deceased. His granddaughter got up to speak on his behalf and got choked up and couldn't finish, so I think it was Tom Schleck who finished talking about "Tiger" and telling his position and such. We have some great photos on our website (www.thedodgevillechronicle.com - go to photos and find HOF). The guys who played here before I could really remember (Ralph Temby and Eric Hagerup) both added a lot of insight to what went on in "their day" and Johnny Crubaugh (who I remember playing) said he has been in 7 school districts and has never seen such as great a pep rally as the one that was here Friday afternoon. Neal Nelson, who is way younger than me, added a lot humor as well as insight to his career. It was a great night at the Dodger Bowl - something more people should be a part of, especially the younger generation!

Friday morning we were eating breakfast at Country Kitchen when one of the waitresses came over and said the old Truck Stop was on fire. I took off without paying my bill, but Bob Kratochwill scraped up enough money to take care of it. If you remember, that morning it was so foggy that you could barely see your hand in front of your face. The photos I got at the fire show how foggy it was. I parked my car and walked to the fire as I didn't want to get caught inside and not get out because I knew the department would be there for quite some time. I think it was around 4:30 p.m. before they got finally back to the station. They left around 11:30 first and were called back around 3:00. I stopped at Ederer's to talk with Terry Carroll about the fire and that was around 9:00 a.m. and I couldn't see the roundabout due to the fog!

Later Saturday morning I went to Highland's homecoming parade (11 a.m.) and the fog had finally lifted. I was traveling along Highway Qâand came around a corner just as about 15 turkeys were crossing the road. Three of them went across, but the others went back to the other side of the road and then crossed behind my car aftert I stopped!

In a couple of weeks we will be coming out with our "Best Of"âspecial section. That's when you can see who our readers picked as the "Best" in the categories they had to pick from. That is always a fun piece to do!
