A huge thank you is in order to Gary Bay (White Rose Florist) for getting our downtown Christmas "snowflakes" back into working order. The city crew put them up last week and they sure do make a difference lighting up the downtown. These decorations have been around for awhile as I remember Bob Campbell Sr. helping screw the light bulbs into them and he passed away in 1999!

The movie "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" came to Dodgeville Thursday evening. I heard the sidewalks were lined with people waiting to get into the Dodge Theatre for its premier showing. Jennifer Lawrence is a pretty darn good actress and she's not tough to look at either. I saw her on TV after she won her not one, but a bunch of awards for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook" and she seemed as wholesome of a person as anyone in the "common" world! She about died when she was surprised by Jack Nicholson at that time - she couldn't believe she was meeting him. Oh, what awards did she win - an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, Satellite Award and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress. She's 23 now and "Rolling Stone Magazine" named her the most talented young actress in America.

Thursday is Thanksgiving. It's not only a day to be with family and eat turkey, ham, or whatever - with all the fixins - it is a day to give thanks for what we have here - whatever community you live in. In America we can pretty much do what we want - as long as it is legal and mostly we don't want for much. For holidays like Thanksgiving we even have a FREE community meal that is served at St. Joseph's Catholic Church this year from noon to 1:30 p.m. (It alternates years between St. Joseph and the Dodgeville United Methodist Church) It is sponsored by the churches of Dodgeville.

Don't forget too that on Christmas Day there is a FREE community meal at Culver's. Culver's closes that day and allows the churches and volunteers to use their facility for a mealsite.

A big congratulations to Black Hawk High School for winning the Division 7 WIAA State Tournament football championship and taking home the gold ball. Also, a great job by Darlngton (D6), Lancaster (D5) and Platteville (D4) as each of them finished second and came home with the silver ball! And it was prety cold those two days Thursday and Friday.

Speaking of cold, I hear the deer are pretty dormant so far this gun hunting season with the colder temperatures. In the past few years it's been pretty tough to hang your deer outside for very long due to the milder temperatures.

Dodgeville's "Miracle Moola" has begun. That's a scratch off game that is played when you visit a participating merchant. Check out the ad in this week's AD-VISOR and Chronicle for rules, etc. It is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
