Ron is a few years older than I am. His sister, Marilyn (Mitzi), graduated from Dodgeville High School with brother Pat in 1963.

Dodgeville's own "Coach" Bob Buck brought a few things to my attention about former DHS graduates and football players who have sons playing football elsewhere with their seasons recently completed. Mike Flora, a 1980 grad, has a son - Mitch - who played split end and defensive back for Verona. Mike was a multi-sport good athlete at DHS. Mitch's mother is Diane Rohowetz, also a multi-sport athlete at DHS. Keith Toman, a 1984 grad, has a son - Brandon - who was a quarterback/defensive back for Madison Memorial. He was recently named to the All-Madison League 1st team as a quarterback. Ron Dentinger II, another 1984 grad, has a son Ron Lee (Ron III) still playing this season in El Paso, Texas, Ron Lee's Coronado team was ranked #3 in the state and beat #1 Montwood 24-23 in a big game. In a previous game, Ron Lee ran a kick-off 102 yards for a touchdown and in that same game ran another back to the 3 yard line. Ron I is a pretty proud grandpa too!

I had a chance to see the Dodgeville High School musical - The Music Man - opening night (Thursday). I was really impressed with the talent of the cast - everyone did a great job. There were a few middle school students sprinkled into the cast and they too were impressive. Caleb Byers, as "The Music Man", and Allie Horton, as the librarian, both were great as was Drew Freese, as the mayor. In fact I could name the entire cast as doing great, but don't have enough room in this column. It was a job well done and I understand that it got better with every performance. Above is a photo during one of the scenes.

I also made it to the top of the Lot 17 Parking Ramp at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Saturday prior to the UW Badgers vs BYU football game for a tailgate party for Chuck Halverson, who was recognized during the game as "UW Season Ticket Holder of the Game". He was brought out on the field. along with his wife Marion and daughter Renee, and introduced to the 80,000+ fans in attendance. Chuck just turned 90 and is still in great shape. He grew up in Jonesdale and attended high school in Dodgeville. He was in WWII and returned in 1946 to attend the University of Wisconsin where he played football on both offense and defense. He graduated with a degree in Agriculture in 1950. Chuck has been a longtime friend and has supported the UW as a season ticket holder for 66 years and had held many fundraisers for his alma mater.

I guess I have to mention my late buddy's place - the Quality Bakery - for being named Madison Channel 3 Viewing Area's "Best Bakery". Brian Crubaugh nosed out his brother Joe, who has a bakery in Stoughton, for the honor. It's really a feather in the cap of the entire family. And when I say the entire family, there are so many in the family that it's no wonder the two bakeries duked it out for the top spot. I heard they were even schooling people on how to use the computer to vote!

Seriously, the bakery here does a great job. Like I always say, "You can keep it around for a week or two and it's still as good as the day you bought it!!!"
