Pointers wait then score big
The Mineral Point softball team led Darlington 4-2 after five innings in what was shaping up to be a barn burner.
But instead the barn door opened and the Pointers ran through it....to the tune of six runs in the sixth. The Pointers than went on to handle the Redbirds 10-2 in a SWALâmatch-up.
The Pointers got to the Redbird pitcher for 15 hits. They took advantage of three walks and four errors.
Beth Wood hurled the win for the Pointers with a neat four hitter. She fanned eight and walked two.
She also had a couple hits in five trips for the Pointers. Caitlyn Qualley went 2x2, Clara Chambers 2x5 and Carlie Qualley 3x5. Emily Wood supplied the power with a triple and as she also had a multiple hit performance, going 3x5.
"It took a little while to get going but we hit the ball hard for most of the game and put the pressure on their defense," said coach Quinn Schultz. "They made a lot of nice plays in the field but we finally broke loose in the sixth inning. Emily Wood had a two RBI triple in the third to get us on the scoreboard and in the sixth we had six hits in the inning combined with and error and a walk."
