Fennimore scores early for win
The two teams began a second game with the Pointers leading 3-2 in the fourth when lightning suspended play.
Fennimore's catcher, Ian Streeter, singled in two runs and winning pitcher Kane Klais knocked in one for the early lead.
The Pointers sent home one in the bottom of the first. Sy Staver was hit by a pitch leading off, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a double steal.
They did not score again until the seventh when Tommy Olson doubled then advanced and scored on infield outs.
Streeter knocked in another run in the sixth with a single. A bases loaded walk added one more and an infield out plated the third run of the inning.
Fennimore added two more in the seventh for the 8-2 final score.
Streeter was 2x5 while Tyler Hunt and Aaron Swan were 2x4 for the Golden Eagles.
Tarek Oellerich had a pair of hits for the Pointers who managed only four hits off Klais. Olson and Gabe Ottoway had the other two.
Nolan Barrette took the loss for the Pointers. He went six innings, fanned seven, walked six and gave up eight hits and six runs.
Alec Schmitz worked one inning, striking out one, walking one and giving up two runs.
"Just a lot of little things that we needed to do better," said coach Dan Burreson. "Execution offensively and defensively... we are definitely capable, but in order to beat teams like Fennimore we need to do a better job with the little things."
"I thought Nolan pitched very well once he settled in," said Burreson. "Tarek had a good day at the plate going 2 x 3 against their ace."
