What a strange weather day Saturday. It was pretty cool when I got up (around 45 degrees), but the winds sure came not too much later in the morning and really continued pretty much all day long. I walked outside of the office once in the early afternoon and it was sleeting as it was raining. Then the sun came out. I went to the Iowa-Grant softball tournament around 4:30 p.m. and while I was there, once again it began sleeting (could've been hail). Then the sun came out again around 6:00. Then it turned "really" cold during the night. I have a feeling that a lot of outside plants go covered. Terry Carroll even had to go out to Ederer's Garden Center and turn a heater on inside the outside plastic building!

The Milwaukee Brewers baseball team is really having a rough time again and so is announcer Bob Uecker. I was listening to the crazy run-filled game Saturday and the Cincinnati Reds had taken a 12-4 lead in the third inning. Ueck made the statement that "there's a long ways to go yet folks - the Tribe is only down by seven and it's only the third! I don't know where he learned his math!

While I'm talking a little baseball, there's a pitcher for the Washington Nationals named Jordan Zimmerman. He's pretty good! I think he's 6-1 right now and is among the leaders in pretty much every starting pitching category. He was born in Auburndale (Wisconsin) and went to school at UW-Stevens Point. No bad for a northerner!

We had a little change in plans for one of the Dodgeville business ribbon cuttings due to a shipment coming in at the previously announced time. The Wild Weasel ribbon cutting will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. and not on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. as I previously said.

I had a chance to get to a couple of school events that were both pretty impressive. Highland held a Creativity EXPO - a school wide (K-12) presentation with a variety of projects, art work (K-12), classroom exhibits and Ag/Tech products etc. Some of the classes gave special presentations on subjects such as the Civil War that I had a chance to see. The other special came from Barneveld school where band instructor Aaron Cooley led a band made up of high school, middle school, community members and guests. they performed pop music from the 1950's to present day, as well as music from the Broadway musicals, The Lion King and Les Miserables. It was pretty impressive. Above, you can see some of the youngsters carrying their "Lion King" props during the finale.

Schools are winding down with a lot of high school graduations taking place in the next couple of weeks. If those students haven't thought about next year by now, they'd better get on the stick. Summer goes by too quickly!

If you like baseball, the Dodgeville Knights Home Talent team won a game Friday night in the bottom of the ninth inning and another on Sunday (7 inning game) in the bottom of the eighth - pretty exciting stuff! Maybe they should play the Brewers!
