The Lady Braves scored a pair in the first thanks to a key Cardinal error and added another on a miscue in the second.
Highland scored once in the fifth, but Belmont answered with two in the fifth on a triple by Daisy Cunzenheim following back to back singles.
Highland's Kari McMannes worked the first 4 1/3 innings in taking the loss. She struck out three, walked three and gave up three earned runs on three hits.
Bailee Rose finished up fanning a pair, walking one and allowing wo earned runs on for hits.
Belmont's Kalyn Kamps fanned an even dozen and walked three while allowing four runs on six Cardinal hits.
Alicia Ramsden was the one Highland hitter to collect two hits as she went 2x3. Halie Kosharek and Chakayla Stanek both rapped doubles and Caitlin Wienkes had an RBI triple.
"It was a cold blustery day, said Highland coach Gary Pustina. "Our pitchers threw well. We just couldn't get that big hit today."
"Their pitcher struck out too many. She didn' throw hard and we tried moving up in the box, but even that didn't work," he concluded.
