Riley hurls Cards to win
Steady, on target and virtually unhittable.
The Highland pitcher continued his solid mound work spacing seven hits, giving up a pair of runs with only one earned while walking five and striking out seven.
He scattered seven hits and helped the Cardinals to an 8-2 win over Belmont in a key Six Rivers game.
His teammates backed him with their bats and scored all eight runs in the first three innings.
Bailey Bodenstein started the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and scored on a hit by Austin Yager. Three straight walks then made it 2-0.
The Cards hung a five-spot on the Braves in the bottom of the second. Andrew Wolfe sent the ball out of the park for a grand slam home run and Brandon McCollough completed the back to back round tripper feat with a solo blast to complete the five run outburst.
Yager finished the scoring with a solo home run in the third.
Bodenstein was 2x4 with a trio of stolen bases and scored two runs.
Yager went 2x4 and drove in two runs.
The game was highlighted by some stellar outfield play by both teams.
Kyle VanBogert, who patrols centerfield for the Braves and Bodenstein who roams the same pasture for the Cardinals both had spectacular diving catches.
But Riley's mound performance was the deciding factor.
"He was steady all game," said coach Terry Cool. "He gave us what we have come to expect from him."
