Pratt stifles Pointers
Wednesday he moved in a little closer...60 feet 6 inches from home plate to be exact. And, he found the change to his liking.
Pratt, a senior right hander, got the nod and took the mound in a non-conference game with Mineral Point. The plan was to try and get five innings from him then go to the pen.
The pen remained empty, thanks to an 84 pitch performance that saw Pratt shut out the Pointers 3-0 and limit them to two hits. He also struck out eight and walked three.
The Dodgers scored the run they needed in the third. Dylan Shaffer singled and Logan Yeager was hit by a pitch. Austin Larson then doubled in Shaffer.
The Dodgers scored again in the fifth. Yeager singled, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Aaron Dowling.
Brett Binsfeld was hit by a pitch in the sixth, moved up on a hit by Yeager and scored on a wild pitch.
Yeager was 2x2 for the Dodgers while Larson, Nick Crowley, Brian Simmons and Shaffer each had one hit.
The Pointers got singles by Turner Poad and Nolan Barrette.
Gabe Ottoway started on the mound and went five innings. He struck out five, gave up four hits and one run.
Poad finished, fanning six and giving up four hits in the two he worked. He gave up two runs, one earned.
Said Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson. "Both Gabe Ottoway and Turner Poad pitched very well. We played well defensively and even though we didn't score we did hit the ball, but either we hit it right at them (like lining into a double play) or they made diving catches in the outfield to prevent us from scoring."
"Turner Poad hit the ball hard today. Joey Gorgen did a nice job behind the plate in his first varsity start. Sy Staver played well at short. Kyle White did a nice job at 3rd base," Burreson added.
