A huge CONGRATULATIONS to the Barneveld girls basketball team of the Six Rivers East Conference. They took down the defending state champions in Division 5, Heritage Christian, Saturday in a sectional semifinal at Watertown. They did it with defense, a great game plan and some clutch shooting, along with a lot of heart. I was in awe at the end of the game when Heritage Christian walked off the floor without receiving their sectional runner-up medals and trophy. They didn't even stay around to watch as Barneveld accepted their medals and championship trophy. Most teams applaud the winners (even though they aren't real happy) when all that happens, but they were nowhere to be seen. I think brother Pat and I were in the gym for another hour following the game. The Barneveld team members stayed in uniform and I believe they talked with every fan who was there and had their picture taken with many. Those girls, their coaches, managers and fans will be great represenatatives of the area at state in Green Bay this weekend!

Also, a congratulations goes out to the Cuba City girls basketball team of the SWAL Conference. They are also going to state, but in Division 4. Coach Jeff Pustina is a Highland native and has daughter Chloe playing on the team - she's a sophomore and a starter.

I always have a "crossing the main street of Dodgeville" story. I will say that Friday when I was heading to the chamber breakfast at the Red Room I only had one car NOT stop for me while I was crossing. The only problem is that there was only one car coming along while I was crossing. Sunday, I headed back to the Red Room for brunch after 10:00 church services. I usually get to eat with my neighbors, Jack and Dorothy Weirich, who are real close to 185 years old between them! I always learn something new by talking to them while we eat. Anyway, a WISCONSIN licensed vehicle didn't stop for me - but in all fairness I wasn't into the crosswalk yet when it passed me by - but a MICHIGAN licensed vehicle was heading along next and stopped in plenty of time for me to cross. A truck stopped for me on my way back to the office. With almost every vehicle that stops the driver waits until I'm on the curb across the road before moving along again!

Oh boy, there's another CRUBAUGH opening a business on the main street in Dodgeville. This one is an Olson now, married to David. There are so many in the family, I can't remember her first name - oh, I remember it's Terry! She's opening Time and Again Vintage in the south half of her mother's store (Linens & Accents) this week. I had a chance to see the inside of the store the other day. Boy there's a lot of "old" stuff inside!

Since the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce has decided not to hold Blues Fest this summer I hear rumblings from some businesses of something that may happen to take its place. I'll keep you in touch as things unfold!

I stopped at the "Wild Weasal" Monday to see the owners. That new Health Food (Organic) opens Wednesday the 20th.
