The Dodgeville Knights Home Talent Baseball Team held its main fundraiser for the upcoming season on Saturday - a 9-pin tap bowling tournament at Dodger Bowl. The day fell a little short of financial expectations, but there still was a great turnout of bowlers and spectators, along with people who just came out to help support the team whether it be with a donation or a bid on some of the great prizes they offered. It was a really fun day. Here is a photo of some of the bowling action that took place early in the day. Oh, and if anyone still wants to donate just stop at the Chronicle office and give it to Ryan.

Saturday was also the day both the Mineral Point and Barneveld girls basketball teams played in the regional finals in their respective division. The Pointers didn't fare too well at Darlington as they finished second in their Division 4 final. The Eagles, however, came out on top and are heading to sectional play in Division 5 - Good Luck Barneveld Girls!

From the area conferences, the Cuba City boys basketball team made it to state with an overtime win in the sectional finals game. They play Whitefish Bay Dominican at 8:15 Thursday night in a Division 4 state semifinal game at the Kohl Center in Madison. That forced the Cuba City girls to play Darlington in a sectional semifinal Wednesday night so the Cuban girls and fans could go to the boys game on the regularly scheduled night for them to play.

Here's about as unselfish an act as you will ever see in sports. The other day two Texas high school teams were playing and the coach of an El Paso team suited his mentally disabled senior manager (Mitchell) up for the game and played him in the final minutes. His teammates tried hard to get him a basket, but he kept missing the shot. Near the game's end they passed to him, but he mishandled it and it went out of bounds. What happened next was heart warming and I'm sure brought tears to the eyes of many. The player from the other team called out Mitchell's name and passed him the ball (instead of passing to any of his teammates). Mitchell made the shot, the final buzzer went off, the crowd gave him (and the other team's player I'm sure) a standing ovation and students proceeded to rush the court and hoist Mitchell on their shoulders. If anyone wants to see it, just google Texas high school basketball team gives mentally challenged manager a chance. That's what I did, but I'm sure there are better shortcuts to get to it. I think it was on CBS News.

Don't ever expect ANYONE to stop for you in the crosswalk in the early morning hours. I was heading to the Red Room for one of our March Friday morning breakfasts with chamber of commerce members and five vehicles rushed right past me while I was standing there in the crosswalk. I'm sure they were on their way to work and stopping for a pedestrian in the crosswalk was probably the last thing on their mind - even if it is THE LAW!

People still say to me that they sure do miss me talking about my buddy CRUBAUGH! I always refer to him as my late buddy now since he passed away, but this is the time of year I always treasured the most with him because I didn't even stop in to harass him or have him harass me. It's Lent and I swear off of sweets and desserts during Lent. If I would enter his bakery during those six weeks, the smell of his goods would get to me. Now I didn't say if that smell was good or not, did I?!!!
