Storm thoughts
By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com
"The storm" caused us some extra work getting the baseball field ready for Sunday's game but that was minor compared with what many experienced.
There were roads out, power outages, streams overflowed, fields were flooded and trees down. Add in mud slides and you get the picture about how various parts of the county looked as the rains pelted the area this past weekend.
While we were getting the field ready, park supervisor David Mortimer was busy picking up the debris that the storm dropped in the park. He was one of many who were called to action because of what the storm left on its way through.
There were others. There were crews that removed downed trees, filled in places that washed away, put up cones on soft shoulders of the road and closed off places that were unsafe to travel.
To our west, Boscobel was flooded, much like Avoca was a couple years ago. A call for help was put out and the community was flooded with those offering help.
To all those who took the time to help others, to answer calls to make the areas safe for travel and who were just good neighbors, thanks.
You are the true definition of community and while Mother Nature always gets her way, those who help make the battle against the weather a little easier.
