Members of the Dodgeville Lions Club who didn't have too much planned for Father's Day worked pretty hard at the first of two (this summer) Antique Show and Flea Market events. Bob Kratochwill works his tail off getting things organized for the event that is held at Harris Park. He, of course has help, but he chalks out the areas for display at Ley Pavilion on Friday or Saturday, checks in vendors from noon until around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and then is there at 5 a.m. on Sunday and pretty much stays until the last person is gone! The food stand is headed by Dewey Christoph and Gari Walz and the ticket booth is headed by Jerry Whitford and Frank Hallada Sr. Signs are put out around 6 a.m. by Terry Carroll and Mike Tiber and the rest of the members provide manpower and back-up all day long. Money made from the event goes back into the community in some way or another like shelters, playground equipment, shelter maintenance, dugouts, scholarships, eye and sight help and much more! The next show - and it's usually really packed with vendors - is August 18th. Even I found a few things "I couldn't live without!"

Friday night, after getting the concession stand at Centennial Park ready for the workers to run for a Senior Babe Ruth game, brother Patrick and I headed to Richland Center to view the 66th Annual Betty Hayes School of Dance show. The Richland Center High School auditorium is a great place to watch that production from and it's air conditioned! Both Pat and I agreed this one was the best productions ever! Betty's daughter Cheryl, who has been a choreographer and actresss/dancer in several national films and stage productions, helped with the production and performed with her parents - Lee and Betty (see above). It was really worth seeing!

We received a renewal from Joe Biddick along with a little note from Marsha. It read: "Enclosed is our payment for our one year renewal of The Dodgeville Chronicle. We enjoy reading this paper every Thursday!" They live in Fitchburg.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday all roads lead to Livingston for their annual festival. Things begin Friday night with ball games that run through Sunday. There's a lot of events Saturday and Saturday evening with fireworks at dusk. Sunday features a chicken barbecue and a huge parade.

I got a chance to stop at the Hodan Center sponsored Fly-in Drive-in breakfast that was held on Father's Day at the Iowa County Airport. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to eat, but everybody said it was great! I did get to see a few airplanes come in and talk with several groups of people. It's always a great time. Bob Regan's kids always treat him to that event!

Son Michael called me n Father's Day and posted on FACEBOOK that he was sorry he couldn't be here, but his new job and moving was almost to much to handle. He sent me a "nice" card - if anyone knows the type of cards I send out, he's a chip off the old block!
