Ok - I think I've seen enough baseball now to last me for awhile. Saturday morning I was at the Cal Ripken 10U tournament in Dodgeville watching my great nephew Grant (Roh) and his team play. He played left field - as can be seen above. They won their first game, but lost their second one. After the first game, Pat and I went to Freeport to the "Little Cubs Field" to watch my great nephew (Pat's grandson, as is Grant) Sean (Reilly) play. That game was not really a game as Sean's team won something like 44-14 - could've been a football score and not a baseball score! Then on Sunday, Grant's team played a great game with Janesville and advanced in the looser's bracket to play Monday morning. They held a 10-6 lead going into the top of the sixth (final inning), but Janesville tied it. They scored to win in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out double by Liam Stumpf to score Drew Latteral, who had led off the inning with a single. Liam had hit a grand slam earlier in the game - pretty exciting! Oh, and they lost Monday to a blow out but a great effort by the "local" team against mostly all-star teams.

This coming Sunday is Iowa County Farmers Appreciation Day. Following the huge parade at 11 a.m., everyone will head to Harris Park (Ley Pavilion) for all that's going on, especially the great food that will be there waiting. Don't forget Upland Hills Health Auxiliary will have a pie sale - always great pies!

On Friday night, the Dodgeville Firemen will hold their annual fundraiser in the form of a dance. Fireworks will be set off at Harris Park at dusk during the dance.

I got a call from John Mueller, who owns Ridge Point Rendevouz, just outside of Ridgeway - that is in the former Hi-Point Steak House location. He didn't really threaten me about stopping out to give his place a try, but it sure was close to a threat! John is a great guy and a great chef. If you're in the neighborhood, or just looking for a NEW place to try, I would reccommend a stop!

Tonight (Thursday) there will be Dancing Under The Stars at Comer Pool in Dodgeville. This is always a great event for the youngsters.

Next Thursday evening is the annual Ice Cream Social at the Iowa County Historical Society Building (across from Hardee's). This is their annual summer fundraiser.

Sunday, good ol' buddy Ron Dentinger sent me an email with a photo of Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers flexing his muscles following one of his many QB sacks. The caption read - "Only 52 Days Remaining Until Football Season Begins!" Matthews wears number 52 and the number 52 was left out of the caption!
