I-G/H wrestlers 4th at Lake Geneva
Team Scores were: Badger 203.5, Milton 195.5, Wisconsin Rapids 182, Iowa-Grant/Highland 174, Muskego 125, Waterford 105, Union Grove 78, Homestead 76, Oregon 75 and Big Foot 39.
The Panthers won championships in the two heavyweight divisions with 220 lb. Cody Rider and 285 lb. Ben McFall taking top honors.
Shania Sarbacker was unavailable to wrestle at 106 lbs. due to an illness.
"It was a good tournament overall. I thought we looked tougher than ever have before," said Iowa-Grant/Highland coach Ryan Allen. "Jenks had a pretty good day going 3-1 losing only his first match by 2 and not losing the rest of the day. Jordan is getting better everyday and if he can keep his pace up he is going to be very tough by tournament time.
"Weston Satern keeps improving and got a nice win this weekend. He is very close to closing the gap between himself and where he needs to be in a month. It will be fun watching him work towards the end of the season.
"Tucker and Luke each lost one match, both to tough wrestlers. I thought both of these guys wrestled tough and they look ready for more matches.
"Brian Halverson, at 152, went 1-3 and got 4th. Only winning one match is disappointing but all three guys Brian lost to were very tough wrestlers, having a combined record of 63-13.
"Caleb Yager, at 160, is starting to look tough. He was 1-2 on the weekend but I was very impressed with some the things he was doing.
"Ross had a tough weekend going 1-4. Ross needs to keep his head in it and keep working hard and I think things will get better for him.
"At 182, Kyle Soderstrom went 3-2. Kyle wrestled better this weekend but still needs to focus on his offense. Kyle is a very dangerous wrestler but he needs to keep building confidence with his stuff.
"Derek went 4-1 this weekend losing to a tough kid from Badger. Derek wrestled well and just got beat by a good wrestler. He will be back and focused throughout practice the rest of the week and be ready for Riverdale.
"Cody and Ben looked very good and when they wrestle their style of match I don't think many guys can keep up."
The Panthers are at Riverdale this Friday. "We are very excited for this match," Allen concluded.
